MTV Movie Awards running diary

I always say, when I start a new blog and it coincides with an MTV award show, I have to do a running diary. So lets go..

8:54 - no pre-show, instead the Heidi and Spencer wedding finale of The Hills. Is this an exercise in setting the bar low?

Anyway, things I'm looking forward to: Andy Samberg's monologue, Eminem's performance, a phone call from a friend so I can actually do something exciting tonight.

8:59 - I dont know if it's MTV or Fios, but there's no noise for this Hills trailer...worse things have happened.

9:09 - Opening segment was funny, Aziz Ansari (3J) is great, of course. Keyboard Cat is typical Samberg, funny and completly stupid. The rap was alright, good to see Megan Fox has a sense of humor...err.

Breakthrew Perfromance Female: Ashley Tisdale - High School Musical 3

Is this what the MTV generation is now, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, and Twilight? Wasn't this a cool station to watch at one point? Or did that stop when you leave adolescence?

9:20 - Naturally there's some sort of text in vote, I still refuse, always. Samburg sings, I'm really looking forward to him making a fool of himself tonight.

Best Fight: Robert Pattinson and Cam Gigandet - Twilight

I don't mean to play the 'I feel old card' but seriously, I feel like Ive graduated from the MTV demographic.

Eminem Performs "We Made You" - not my favorite song off "Relapse" but of course Em can't help but make fun of this crowd to their faces. "Crack A Bottle" next, not an amazing performance, but then again, it seems Em is just reestablishing his presence right now.

9:33 - loving the "Cool Guys Don't Look at Explosions" song. Will Ferrell, JJ Abrams, keeps getting better. I suppose these funny song things can run old, but that havent yet.

Breakthrough Performance Male: any chance Robert Pattinson doesnt win?

Nope. Robert Pattinson - Twilight

That's two for him already tonight. Personally, I think Bobb'e J. Thompson was robbed, if you saw Role Models you agree.

9:43 - Bruno's flying across the crowd?!!? and he's stuck, now falling, something about his poopensac. He lands on Eminem ass-to-face, he doesnt seem amused, "Get this motherf*cker off me" and now hes leaving. Damn, this is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog all over again.

Zach Efron wins some sort of award, I dont even think he knows.

For those keeping track no one over 16 has won an award tonight.

Harry Potter clip looks way cooler than the Transformers one, yeah?

9:54 - Samberg's killing with these little bits. A fake sound-editing guy air humps for two minutes and it works, strangely.

Best Kiss: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - Twilight

Does this mean I should see this movie, or change the channel? The two awkwardly kiss...or not! huzzah.

Hey look, its Jim Carrey. He requests a Digital Short performance, which will it be "Im on a Boat" "Dick in a Box." ? Leanne Rhymes is singing "Jizz in my Pants" this is excellent. Highlight of the show, easily. Chris Isaak singing "I'm on a Boat" not quite as good, but I can dig it. Now it's "Lazy Sunday" this is all Broadway style by the way, chorus and all. Forrest Whitaker singing "Dick in a Box" this is the show I was hoping to see: Bizare antics, not teeny-bopper celebrations.

Hayden Panetierre drops some F bombs ...and I like it. Then she battles this British Orbit rapper guy.

WTF Award: Amy Poehler - Baby Mama

The beeped out explatives are in great excess, which means the shows growing. I guess HSM curfews are 10:00PM.

Best Song from a Movie: Miley Cyrus "The Climb" - Hannah Montana The Movie

She beats Bruce Spingsteen, who in any other non-twisted reality would have won.

An exclusive clip of Twilight: New Moon!!! And its just Samberg in vampire teeth dunking a basketball, which is most likely more entertaining anyways. But seriously, the real clip is coming after this comercial break - Don't drink that vile just yet.

10:16 - These Twilight actors seem as lively as, well, vampires. The clip airs, the crowd shrieks, can we move on now? thanks.

MTV Generation Award - Ben Stiller

Zac Efron, Kiefer Sutherland, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog speak on Stillers genius. An unexpected foreshadow on my part. Back handed compliments all around. Efron admits he's here cause he loves 24, me too Zach, me too. Triumph's ape schtick misses on his potential.

10:34 - Best Female Performance: Kristen Stewart - Twilight

"The fans are the ultimate driving force" After tonight, I'd have to disagree.

Kings of Leon perform.

My facebook newsfeed just exploded about Kristen Stewart, heres a sample:

someone should take away Kristen Stewart's stash NOW

Really Kristen Stewart Over Kate Winslet?

There you go. I know the MTV movie awards were never a serious contest, but I feel a little cheated. Can we just call this the Twilght Musical 3 awards and call it day. In fact, can we just watch Andy Samberg on SNL instead?

10:47 - Will Ferrell and Danny Mcbride have cats onstage, you know, to seem more evil than funny. The cats are dead, the joke is done.

Best Comedic Performance: Jim Carrey - Yes Man

I still haven't seen a single film that's won tonight. Jim Carrey's speech is an inner monolauge over the loud speaker. Good to see he's still funny. As for Yes Man, still doesnt get the benefit of the doubt.

10:57 - Denzel and Olivia Washington present Best Picture. We got The Dark Knight, Slumdig, HSM3, Iron Man, and Twilight.

Best Picture - Twilight

Now, I saw three out of those five movies (you can guess) and was Twilight really better? Whebn the MTV movie awards first aired some 15 years ago, it was praised for giving awards to Terminator 2. In other words, they recognize the totally kick-ass movies that aren't quite Oscar material, but people still like, or love.

Well, maybe it's serving the same purpose, or maybe it's not. Either way Samberg salvaged an otherwise bore of a show.

What's Up??

Reviews sound good, but what does everyone think?

Actresses who need more burn

I fully throw my support behind numbers one and six.

Entertainment's the game now. First post is a good one. How do we feel about this? I say it could be great or a mistake.
